There are multiple ways to get involved with Rotary International generally, and the Vernon Silver Star Rotary specifically.

  1. Membership: Membership in Rotary is by invitation only to ensure you join a club that best fits your passion and perspective. By learning more about you, we can make sure the Vernon Silver Star Rotary is the right club for you and to get involved and on your way to membership immediately. If another club may be more aligned with your passions and availability, we can help guide you there and get you introduced to other club's members who can sponsor you.
  2. Volunteering: The Vernon Silver Star Rotary is known for our willingness to "do the work" supporting those causes into which we invest our resources. More than just fund-raising, our club members are known to grab a shovel or a broom (for example) just as quickly - if not more so - than to grab the cheque-book to make a financial contribution. Sometimes we do both. Many of the projects we get involved with like cleaning a park or nature area, running a BBQ for local schools, or fund-raising via 50-50 ticket sales at a local event like the Vipers hockey games all require volunteers. We love it when members of the community participate. We find this is a great way to not only support the initiative at hand, but to build community and new relationships. We even love it when families join us to help make Vernon and the North Okanagan a better place to live.
  3. Financial Donation: In addition to "doing the work," we also provide financial support to many programs and initiatives, and use funds we raise in support of things like youth scholarships, purchasing food for school BBQs and breakfast / lunch programs, or refurbishing a playground or part of the Rail-Trail in the greater Vernon area. Your financial contribution is 100% tax-deductible, and will go a long way to helping us continuing our legacy of making the greater Vernon, British Columbia area the best place to live.

What are the responsibilities of membership?

Every club is different, and many are relaxing formal meeting requirements and structures. In general, members are asked to attend weekly club meetings. Members must pay annual dues to their clubs, which cover Rotary district and Rotary International affiliation fees. They’re encouraged to participate in local or international Rotary club activities or projects. Clubs often advise members to aspire to club leadership or committee roles.

What is the minimum age to be in Rotary?

There is no minimum age to join Rotary. You may be invited to join at any age after you become established in a career and have the time and financial resources to meet all Rotary club membership requirements. If you’re interested in joining a Rotary club, ask members about the time and financial commitments necessary to fulfill membership requirements, and consider whether you can make those commitments.
