Chateau

2022 07 12 | Host: Jim Kanester | Exploration of Canada's First City

Jim & Anne-Marie Kanester visited Quebec City May 27th to June 4th, reporting that is a good time to go, with decent weather, before the crowds arrive. They were amused by the traffic signs, using icons for rights-of-way; swear words referencing Catholic church objects; plus the many new and old gates. Highlights included the Chateau St. Louis ruins & half million artifacts excavated 2005 to 2007 under the Dufferin Terrasse (boardwalk in front of the Chateau Frontenac), the Plains of Abraham, south of La Citadelle, where one can learn about varying French & English versions of the battle where Montcalm was defeated by Wolfe; and the aquarium, where a large walrus impressed Jim. Although both Jim & Anne-Marie are fluent in French, they encountered lots of English speakers during their long daily walks.
