2023 03 21 | Host: Givonna De Bruin | Susan Hickman of Inner Light Yoga

Rotarian Givonna De Bruin gave us a treat today by hosting Susan Hickman of Inner Light Yoga at our Club meeting. Susan started her journey to fitness by joining her mother as they attended a gym together. Eventually becoming a fitness instructor in 2013, she expanded her expertise to include dance and as a certified Kripalu yoga teacher, and now owns the Inner Light Yoga studio, Vernon's oldest yoga studio.

After walking us through her journey and a bit of background on the evolution of yoga over the past 5,000 or so years, she explained Inner Light's focus predominantly in "Nidra Yoga," concentrating on core strength and mind relaxation. As Susan says, "As movement make the body strong, stillness makes the mind strong."

The studio hosts multiple programs and classes, each with a different focus. These include everything from general wellness to injury recovery, and the newest is a program focused on golf and racquet sports, concentrating on core, back, hips, and shoulder strength and flexibility.

Susan Hickman leads VSSRotary thru Chair Yoga

We concluded the session with some "chair yoga" where members participated in some low stress stretching, a great way to start the day.
