2022 01 25 | Host: Dr. Craig Goplen | Norm Crerar - Okanagan Military Tattoo
Jan 25, 2022
Dr Craig Goplen hosted Norm Crerar, President & Producer of the Okanagan Military Tattoo Society, a non-profit which began about ten years ago, & has produced annual spectacles up till 2019. Covid interrupted 2020 & 2021 shows. Norm’s team is now planning shows for 7pm, Sat, July 23rd & 2pm, Sun, July 24th, 2022. Most military tattoos are associated with a nearby military base. Our Vernon Cadet Camp plays an important role. Annual expenses for the Okanagan shows total about $250,000, including Kal Tire Place rental, sound equipment, accommodation & meals for out-of-town performers, publicity & a long list of other expenses. About one-third of revenue comes from each of ticket sales, government grants & local sponsors / partners, some of whom donate “in kind.” A typical show includes roughly 500 performers – pipe, drum & brass bands, dancers, etc., plus a small army of volunteers. One of his lieutenants is Rotarian Derek Hall, who may come asking for our help again. From the Tuesday before, till midnight Sunday, there are a million jobs to do. This year, locals will also be able to attend a Wed, May 25th, 2022 performance of Edmonton’s Lord Strathcona’s Mounted Troop, at the Armstrong Fairgrounds, hosted by the OMTS.
