VSS Rotary Selects 2022 Scholarship Recipients
Mar 24, 2022
On Monday afternoon March 21, 6 deserving, graduating students in the greater Vernon area were selected to each receive $1,500 scholarships for their post-secondary academic pursuits. Approximately 250 applications from 5 local high schools within School District #22 were received. Each application was reviewed by a panel of 5 Vernon Silver Star Rotary club members who spent several hours at the task. Criteria were financial need, academic achievement and extra-curricular school and community involvement.
The Vernon Silver Star Rotary club has offered scholarships to youth within School District #22 for years to continue to invest in and build our community. According to James Kanester who leads the program for VSSRotary, "We know that investing in our youth is investing in our community."
Funds for the scholarships come from an endowment fund the club established in partnership with the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan almost 30 years ago. Several VSSRotary activities each year raise funds specifically to build the endowment. "We continue to build the endowment each year so that we can offer more scholarships and support to youth in the greater Vernon area." said Mr. Kanester. He continued "As our youth flourish, so will our community."
VSSRotary wishes our best to all applicants and the winners who will be presented with their scholarships at their graduating ceremonies in 2022.
