VSSRotary Runs Three 50-50 Raffles at Vipers' Games

Feb 16, 2022

15Mar2022 -- Based on the great success of past events and a cooperative relationship between VSSRotary and the Vernon Vipers organization, VSSRotary was awarded the privilege to run three (3) separate 50-50 draws at recent Vipers' games on March 2, 9, and 13, with 50% of proceeds going to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club - Okanagan Vernon. A total of $2,277.50 will soon be handed over to the Boys' and Girls' Club. The same amount was split between three lucky Vipers fans at these games.

Boys' & Girls' Club - Okanagan Vernon runs the Teen Junction Centre and Drop In programs for youth 13 to 18 years old, an initiative VSSRotary has supported for many years. Teen Junction provides a safe place for youth, who may have economic or safety concerns, to hang out, socialize with peers, find adult guidance, do activities together, and use the community kitchen with staff supervision.

"Vipers 50-50s are a great way for VSSRotary to generate funds which we distribute - 100% - to community initiatives and organizations," said Don Miller, VSSRotary club President. He continued "We routinely use these raffle proceeds to support our annual high school grad scholarships, plus groups like Teen Junction, Venture Training, and others in the North Okanagan.

In the Province of British Columbia, 50-50 Raffles & other Gaming events are regulated by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. We operate under a Class B licence, which allows a prize of up to $5,000 -- unlike some other Vipers 50-50 raffles, operated under a Class C licence, restricting their prize(s) to $500. Proceeds of all tickets sold at each event go into a "pot," and when our winning ticket is randomly selected, that ticket holder receives 50% of the pot in cash. The remaining 50% goes to our designated beneficiary, which must be a charity pre-approved by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch.

To participate, simply be at the Vernon Vipers home games on our specified dates, and look for VSSRotary members walking the concourse & steps, selling tickets. Bring your cash, grab a chance to win some money, and support the local community in the process.
