VSSRotary’s Father-Daughter Ball Delivers in Support of Community Initiatives
Oct 31, 2022
The Vernon Silver Star Rotary is pleased to report that thanks to the support of numerous community sponsors and attendees, this year’s 23rd annual Father-Daughter Ball held on October 14, 2022 raised over $10,000 to be distributed to various organizations and initiatives throughout the north Okanagan.
“As the major fund-raising event for our club, we are thrilled to know that the proceeds from this year’s event will allow us to continue to support programs like the BGC Okanagan, the school lunch and breakfast programs at various schools in the district and for families in need, and other community activities,” said Calvin Reich, club President.
The Father-Daughter Ball has been a long-standing event in the community since its founding by the Kiwanis Club 23 years ago, giving fathers and other male-figures in the lives of young women a chance to spend some quality time together. This year’s event returned after a 2-year pandemic-imposed hiatus and included not only fathers chaperoning their daughters, but also uncles, grandfathers, family friends, and even some brothers as unique family situations dictated.
The event was a sell-out with over 225 attendees filling the ballroom at the Vernon Lodge. Emceed by Brian Martin and his daughter Emma, the event also included a presentation from RCMP Constable Amanda Taylor discussing how good relationships across gender lines are important, and that young women should be independent and strong throughout their lives.
Mr. Reich added, “We are already convening the organizing committee for next year’s event with an intent of continuing to raise funds for our community activities and in making the event one members of the community enjoy and get excited about.”
